Perhaps one of the most tactile skyscrapers in Tokyo, the Shinjuku Center Building's facade is a series of vertical ridges undulating along its surface. Standing out in the channels are hundreds of individual windows. Because of the way the building angles in at each window row it appears that the windows are actually jutting out of the surface, even though they remain flat. It's a nice detail that turns an ordinary skyscraper into the sort of building that makes the viewer want to run his hands over it -- to touch the building and what all those bumpy windows must feel like. Of course, all those angles serve a practical purpose -- they help dissipate seismic energy in the event of an earthquake.
