Roppongi Hills Mori Tower

6-10-1 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo Japan

A great part of the Tokyo skyline. It is one of a number of newer skyscrapers that are helping define the style of Asian architecture in the 21st century. Too many of Tokyo's older towers were mere copies of bland skyscrapers in other cities. Projects like the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower help Tokyo set itself apart from other capitals while at the same time firmly establish itself as a city to be reckoned with.

The design is a smooth glass skin which pulls back in places to reveal the tower underneath. It's a design reminiscent of an organic process and very much in touch with the Japanese sentiment of architecture imitating natural forms. Many of the vertical elements aren't 90-degrees. Instead, they gently curve along the facade enhancing its smooth appearance and continuing the organic theme. Like many other skyscrapers in Tokyo, this one stands alone. But unlike so many others, the architects took this into consideration and worked to make the building attractive from every side.
